bible studies free pdf: Beginning Biblical Studies Marielle Frigge, 2013-09-01 Thirty-three years of teaching Scripture and theology to undergraduates has given Marielle Frigge great insight into the needs of biblical study students and teachers. Unlike any other text on the market, this book does not assume familiarity with the contents or origins of the Bible or with the Bible's major events, characters, and themes. Beginning Biblical Studies, Revised Edition paints in broad strokes to provide readers sufficient context for reading and understanding the Bible. Revisions to Frigge's original text include fuller treatment of Jewish, Orthodox, and Protestant perspectives, updates for the most recent scholarship, a new appendix on archaeology and the Bible, plus more photographs, sidebars, and recommended resources, as well as revised appendices, time lines, and maps. |
bible studies free pdf: The Fourfold Gospel J. W. McGarvey, Philip Y. Pendleton, 2010-03 The classic Harmony of the Gospels by J. W. McGarvey and Philip Y. Pendleton with interspersed comments. Attractively re-typeset, this enduring work is a valuable resource to modern Bible students. In most commentaries a fifth or sixth of the space is taken up in drawing distinctions between the texts of the four Gospels, while in this work these distinctions are placed before the reader's eye, where he can see them for himself at a glance. Moreover, in other commentaries, which give the text, another sixth or seventh of the work is taken up in reprinting in the notes that portion of the text concerning which the commentator wishes to speak. Our interjected method avoids all this needless repetition, and makes it possible for us to present the comment with the least preliminary verbiage or introductory setting. Time is also saved because the reader does not have to look back and forth from the text at the top to the comment at the bottom of the page. Again, other commentaries lose a large amount of space by using the King James text. Those which preceded the revision waste space correcting the translation and modernizing its English: those published since the revision suffer a similar waste by drawing endless comparisons between the two texts. By choosing the American revision as the basis for our work, we have a text which needs but little explanation or apology, and we are thereby enabled to employ the reader's time and strength to his best advantage. --Excerpted from the Introduction |

bible studies free pdf: All In Mark Batterson, 2013-09-24 Christians who want to take the next step in their faith walk need look no further. It's time to ante up and go all in with God. The Gospel costs nothing. You can't earn it or buy it. It can only be received as a free gift, which is compliments of God's grace. It doesn't cost anything, but it demands everything. It demands that we go all in, putting all that we have into God's hands. But why do so many Christians hesitate to do that? And when did we start believing that the Gospel is an insurance plan? We're afraid that if we go all in that we might miss out on what life has to offer. But Jesus did not die to keep us safe. He died to make us dangerous. So, let's step out of spiritual no man's land and kneel at the foot of the cross of Christ and surrender to his lordship. It's time to dethrone yourself and enthrone Christ as king, and Pastor Mark Batterson is here to show you how. Using his customary vivid, contemporary illustrations, as well as biblical characters like Shamgar, Elisha, Jonathan, and even Judas, you will be challenged to trade what Batterson calls inverted Christianity for true discipleship as you strip away your excuses and inhibitions and follow God completely. It's now or never. Are you ready to go all in and all out for God? Also available: All In student edition, video curriculum, and study guide. |

bible studies free pdf: A Commentary on the Book of Revelation David Pawson, 2013-07-17 As a history book the Bible is unique, telling us about the future as well as the past. To become obsessed with either is to evade life’s challenges. Both perspectives are needed to live ‘over the circumstances’ of the present. The book of Revelation focuses on the future and can produce two reactions among Christians - some cannot get into it and others cannot get out of it!! We need a more balanced view of its significance. After all, it is the only book in the whole Bible to which God has attached a special blessing and an awful curse. It was written for ordinary people under extraordinary pressure. Suffering is the key to its understanding. It is a manual for martyrdom. As history draws to a close, all Christians need its message of warning and encouragement. |

bible studies free pdf: James Greg Gilbert, 2013-04-30 The Knowing the Bible series is a new resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. Each 12-week study leads participants through one book of the Bible and is made up of four basic components: (1) Reflection questions designed to help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlighting the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” showing how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identifying how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from a wide array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible. In this accessible study, pastor and author Greg Gilbert examines the message of James, exploring the book’s difficult teachings on wealth, anointing with oil, prayer, healing, and the relationship between faith and works. Through clear exposition of the biblical text and challenging application questions, Gilbert helps readers rightly understand James as a stirring exhortation to fruitfulness, ultimately written to remind Christians of the necessary connection between genuine faith and heartfelt obedience. |
